Emergency right now? Do this first

  1. Turn off the water at the meter, usually near the front boundary, and switch off the hot water system. In an apartment, use your unit's isolation valve or ask building management.
  2. Switch off the power to any area where water is near power points or lights. If you smell gas, leave the area and call your gas distributor or 000.
  3. Take photos for your insurer, then call us on 1300 346 353, 24/7.

Why call a leak detector in an emergency?

In an emergency the instinct is to start cutting into walls or digging up the yard to find the water. That usually adds damage and cost. Water travels along slabs, through wall cavities and under floor coverings, so the wet patch is often metres from the break. A leak detector finds the exact spot first, so the repair is one small opening in the right place.

Brisbane properties bring their own challenges: slab-on-ground homes with water lines in the concrete, Queenslanders and older homes with long underground runs to the meter, apartment and body corporate buildings where a leak shows up floors below, and acreage properties with buried mains on the city's edge.

Burst pipe in Brisbane? What we do

A burst pipe you can see is a job for any plumber. A burst you can't see is where we come in: water running under the slab, inside a wall or ceiling, or underground between the meter and the house, a meter that keeps spinning with every tap off, or a water bill that has suddenly jumped.

  • We find it fast. Pressure testing, acoustic listening, thermal imaging and tracer gas pinpoint the burst without digging up the yard or cutting open walls.
  • We show you exactly where. The spot is marked on site and in a written report with photos for your plumber, insurer, body corporate or water provider.
  • Repairs are quoted separately. We can quote and book the repair as a return visit, or your own plumber can fix it straight from our marked location.

Water pouring out right now? Turn off the water at the meter first (see the steps above), then call us on 1300 346 353, 24/7.

Common emergency leaks and how we find them

Thermal image of a hot water pipe leaking under a sink

Burst pipes in walls and ceilings

Water through a ceiling or bubbling paint. Thermal cameras and moisture meters track it back to the burst.

Slab leaks

Warm or wet floors and a hot water system that never stops. Pressure testing and thermal imaging locate the leak in the slab.

Underground water mains

A spinning meter or a soggy patch in the yard. Acoustic ground microphones and tracer gas find the break without trenching.

Emergency leaks, insurance and your water bill

Most home insurance policies cover the damage a sudden leak causes, but not always the cost of finding it, and insurers want to know the cause. Our report shows where the leak is, what caused it and photos of the damage, which is what insurers and assessors ask for.

Brisbane and Ipswich are supplied by Urban Utilities, which may offer financial assistance for a concealed leak once it's been repaired. Logan and the Redlands are supplied by their councils' water services, which have their own leak policies. In each case you'll usually need evidence of where the leak was and that it's been fixed, and our report covers the first part. Read our guide to claiming a water bill leak credit.

Homeowners, body corporates and businesses

We work for homeowners, landlords, property managers, body corporate managers, builders and businesses across Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan and the Redlands, day or night.
