- Pull back wet carpet or rugs, move anything that can stain, and open windows so the area can start to dry.

Why shower leaks are so hard to find
Water from a leaking shower rarely appears where it gets out. It can escape through cracked grout or silicone, a failed waterproofing membrane under the tiles, a loose floor waste or puddle flange, or a pipe and mixer inside the wall, then travel along the slab, timber frame or floor joists before it shows up as damp carpet in the hallway or a stain on the ceiling below.
That's why so many Melbourne bathrooms are ripped out on a guess. Older homes from the 1960s to 1990s often have mortar-bed showers with little or no membrane, many apartments have showers above other units, and newer homes can still fail at the floor waste or door sill.
