CCTV Drain Camera Inspection
1300 FINDLEAK sends a high-definition camera through your sewer, stormwater and waste pipes to show exactly what is wrong: tree roots, cracked or collapsed pipes, open joints, sagging lines or a blockage. We record the footage, locate the problem from above ground, mark the spot and give you a photo report, so the repair only digs where it needs to. A CCTV drain camera inspection is from $398 inc. GST for the first hour.
Drain blocked or overflowing right now?
- Stop using the toilets, showers, washing machine and dishwasher so no more water goes down the drain.
- Find the overflow relief gully (the grated outlet outside, usually near the laundry or bathroom) and check it isn't covered.
- Don't use chemical drain cleaners if a camera inspection is coming. They can damage pipes and make the job unsafe.
- If sewage is coming up inside, keep people and pets away from it and ventilate the room.
Call 1300 346 353, 24/7. We'll tell you what we can do and when.
When you need a drain camera inspection
- Drains that block again and again, or run slowly
- Gurgling toilets or basins, or sewer smells outside
- Sunken paving, a wet patch in the yard or a sinkhole near a pipe
- Water pooling against the house or under the floor after rain
- Large trees close to the sewer or stormwater lines
- Cracking walls or floors that may be linked to a leaking drain
- Buying an older home, or before a renovation or extension
- Checking new drainage before handover or after a repair
What a CCTV inspection includes

Camera through the line
A push-rod camera goes in from the inspection opening, gully, downpipe or pit and records the inside of the pipe. We watch it live with you and keep the footage for the report.

Locating and marking
A locator picks up the camera head through the ground, so we can trace where the pipe runs, mark the problem spot and give an approximate depth before anyone digs.

Finding the cause
Tree roots, cracks, collapses, open joints, sagging pipe, corrosion, fat and debris build-up, and stormwater pipes that were never connected. Each one is shown in the footage and photos.

How it works
Tell us the symptoms
Call or book online and tell us what's happening: blockages, smells, a wet patch, sunken paving or a pre-purchase check. We'll tell you what access we need.
Find the access point
We open the inspection opening, gully, pit or downpipe that gives the camera the best path into the line.
Camera and locate
The camera records the inside of the pipe while a locator traces it from above, so each problem is matched to a spot on the ground.
Mark and report
We mark the spots, show you the footage and send a photo report. Your plumber can fix the right section, or ask us to quote the repair and we'll book a return visit.
Drain problems and what usually causes them
| Sign | Likely cause | How we find it |
|---|---|---|
| Drain keeps blocking | Tree roots through a joint, a sagging section that holds waste, or a partly collapsed pipe | Camera through the line to the blockage, then locate and mark it |
| Gurgling toilet or slow basin | Partial blockage, a dip in the pipe or poor venting | Camera inspection of the branch and main line |
| Sewer smell outside | Cracked pipe, a broken inspection opening or a dry trap | Camera inspection and a check of the fittings at ground level |
| Sunken paving or a wet patch in the yard | Broken or open-jointed stormwater or sewer pipe washing soil away | Camera to the break, locate from above and mark the spot |
| Water against the house after rain | Downpipe not connected, or a crushed or blocked stormwater line | Camera from the downpipe or pit, and tracing where the line goes |
| Water under a shower or floor | Leaking 40 to 50 mm waste pipe or floor waste under the slab | Small-diameter camera through the waste, located with an approximate depth, plus moisture readings |

CCTV drain camera inspection FAQs
How much does a CCTV drain camera inspection cost?
From $398 inc. GST for the first hour on site in metropolitan Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Extra time, if needed, is $198 per hour in Victoria and $168 per hour in Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. That includes the camera inspection, recorded footage, locating and marking the line, and a written photo report.
What can a drain camera find?
Tree roots, cracked or broken pipes, collapsed sections, displaced or open joints, sagging pipes that hold water, blockages from fat, wipes or debris, and stormwater pipes that were never connected. The camera also shows where the problem is, so the repair only opens up one spot.
Can you tell where the pipe is and how deep it is?
Yes. A locator picks up the signal from the camera head through the ground, so we can mark the line and the problem spot on the ground or paving, along with an approximate depth.
Do I need a CCTV inspection before buying a house?
It's worth it for older homes, homes with large trees near the drains, or where there are signs like slow drains, gurgling, sewer smells or sunken paving. It can save a big repair bill after settlement. See our pre-purchase plumbing inspection too.
Can you inspect small waste pipes inside the house?
Yes. As well as sewer and stormwater lines, we have a specialist camera for 40 mm and 50 mm waste pipes, such as shower, basin and floor waste lines that may be leaking under a floor. We can also locate these 40 mm and 50 mm pipes and give an approximate depth.
Do you clear or repair the drain as well?
Our visit is about finding and recording the problem: we show you the footage, mark the spot and give you a report. Many plumbers and drainers use our report to do their own repairs. If you'd like us to, we'll quote the repair and return at another time to complete it, often with trusted independent trades.
See inside your drains before anyone digs.
From $398 inc. GST. Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. 24/7 phone line.
