Leak Detection Reports for Insurance Claims
When water damage leads to an insurance claim, your insurer or loss adjuster needs to know where the water is coming from and what caused it. 1300 FINDLEAK finds hidden leaks without opening walls or lifting tiles on a guess, and gives you a written report with photos, test results, the cause and a recommended repair scope. Leak detection starts from $398 inc. GST for the first hour in metro areas, with the report included.
What's in our report
- Where the leak is and how the water travels to the damage, marked on site and shown in photos.
- What caused it, such as a failed shower membrane, a cracked pipe, a roof flashing or a balcony waste.
- Evidence: photos, thermal images, moisture readings and the results of each test we ran.
- Standards: references to the National Construction Code and Australian Standards where relevant.
- A recommended repair scope your plumber, builder or insurer's repairer can quote from.
Please allow up to 14 days for formal reports. Repairs are quoted separately, and many insurers use their own repairers.

Insurance report FAQs
Will my insurer accept your report?
Insurers and loss adjusters ask for the source and cause of the leak, which is what our report shows, with photos and test results. Whether a claim is approved depends on your policy and your insurer; we don't decide or guarantee claims.
Does insurance pay for leak detection?
Some home and strata policies cover the cost of finding the source of a leak and some don't. Check your policy or ask your insurer before you book. Either way, our report gives your insurer the evidence it needs to assess the damage.
How long does the report take?
We show you the leak and explain the cause on site. Please allow up to 14 days for the formal written report. If your insurer or loss adjuster has a deadline, tell us when you book.
Do you write expert reports for VCAT, NCAT or QCAT?
Yes. A VCAT expert leak report is a fixed $1,198 inc. GST in metro Melbourne, prepared under VCAT's expert evidence rules. For NCAT or QCAT matters, call 1300 346 353 for a quote.
How much does leak detection for an insurance claim cost?
$398 inc. GST for the first hour on site in metro Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, with the written report included. Extra time is $198 an hour in Victoria and $168 an hour in NSW and Queensland. Other areas have their own first-hour prices.
