Leak Detection Eastern Suburbs Melbourne

We find hidden water, gas, shower, balcony and roof leaks in homes and businesses across Melbourne's eastern suburbs, from Kew and Hawthorn to Box Hill, Glen Waverley, Ringwood and Croydon, and the cause of an unexplained water bill. Our licensed technicians use acoustic listening, tracer gas, thermal imaging and water testing, so nothing is dug up or broken to find the leak. From $398 inc. GST for the first hour, with a written report.

Leak right now?

  1. Turn off the water at the meter or stopcock if water is running somewhere it shouldn't.
  2. Switch off power to any area where water is near electrics.
  3. If you smell gas, turn off the gas at the meter, don't use switches or naked flames, get everyone outside and call your gas distributor's emergency line (it's on your gas bill), or 000 if anyone is in danger.
  4. Call us on 1300 346 353. Our phone line is open 24/7 for burst pipes and gas leaks.

Leak detection in the eastern suburbs

The eastern suburbs are full of established family homes on larger blocks. A hidden leak rarely shows where it starts: water from a long underground service or a pipe under a slab can soak away for months before your water bill jumps, and water from a shower or roof can travel through walls and ceilings before a stain appears. We find the source first, so you only open up or repair the right spot, and we can often come the same or next day.

Why homes in the eastern suburbs leak

  • Long underground services. On bigger blocks the water meter can be a long way from the house, and a leak under the lawn, driveway or garden can run for months without a wet patch.
  • Ageing pipes. Post-war and 1960s homes in Kew, Camberwell, Balwyn and Blackburn often still have copper or galvanised pipes that corrode and split with age.
  • Slab and hot water leaks. Many 1970s to 1990s homes in Doncaster, Templestowe, Glen Waverley and Ringwood have hot and cold pipes in or under the slab.
  • Clay soils. Much of the east sits on clay that swells in winter and shrinks in summer, which moves pipes, joints and slabs.

We also find gas leaks, including when the gas meter has been locked off, and track down the moisture behind water damage and mould. Pools and spas: we don't test pools or spas ourselves. We refer pool and spa jobs free of charge to our trusted pool leak detection partner, and we still find pipe and slab leaks around pools. See pool leak detection Melbourne.

How it works

Step 1

Call or book online. Tell us what you're seeing. You get the price before we book and a 2-hour arrival window.

Step 2

We test, not guess. The technician uses the right method for your leak and doesn't dig, drill or lift tiles to find it.

Step 3

We mark the leak. We show you where it is and explain the cause before we leave.

Step 4

You get the report. Photos, test results, cause and repair scope for your plumber, builder, strata manager or insurer.

Insurance and your water bill

Insurance-ready report

Your report shows the leak's location and cause with photos and test results, which is what insurers and loss adjusters ask for. Whether your policy covers finding the leak depends on your insurer, so check with them.

High water bill

Most of the eastern suburbs are supplied by Yarra Valley Water, and parts of the south-east by South East Water (check the name on your bill). If a hidden leak pushed your bill up, ask your water company whether you can apply for a leak allowance once it's repaired. Our report gives them the evidence they ask for. Read our guide to claiming a water bill leak credit.

Repairs: our visit is about finding the leak. We mark it, explain the cause and give you the report. If you'd like us to fix it, we'll quote the repair and return at another time to complete it, often with trusted independent trades. Many plumbers, builders and property managers do their own repairs from our report.
