Moisture detection finds where water is getting into walls, floors and ceilings, and how far it has spread, before anything is opened up. Our licensed technicians map the damp area with moisture meters and thermal imaging, then trace it back to the source with the right test, whether that's a shower, a pipe, a roof or rising damp. What does moisture detection show?
Water that escapes from a shower, pipe, roof or balcony soaks into plaster, timber, concrete and brick long before it shows as a stain. Moisture meters measure how wet those materials are, and thermal imaging shows the cooler, damp areas across a whole wall or ceiling. Together they map where the water is and how far it has travelled, which you can't judge by eye.
Why we don't rely on readings alone
A wet reading shows that a material is damp, not where the water is coming from. We use the moisture map to narrow the search, then confirm the source with the right test, such as flood and dye testing for showers and balconies, pressure testing for pipes, or controlled water testing for roofs and windows.

Your moisture detection report
Your report includes the moisture map and readings, thermal images and photos, the test results, the source and cause of the moisture, and a recommended repair scope. How much does moisture detection cost?
$398 inc. GST for the first hour on site in metro Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, with the written report included. Extra time is $198 an hour in Victoria and $168 an hour in NSW and Queensland, and we check with you before going past the first hour.
What does a moisture meter show?
A moisture meter measures how wet a building material is at that spot. Taking readings across a wall, floor or ceiling builds a moisture map that shows where the damp is worst and how far it has spread, which points us towards the source.
Is a moisture reading enough to prove a leak?
No. A high reading shows the material is wet, not why. We use the moisture map to narrow the search, then confirm the source with testing such as a flood or dye test, a pressure test or controlled water testing, and those results go in your report.
Can you tell if it's a leak or rising damp?
Yes. A plumbing or shower leak, rain getting in and rising damp leave different moisture patterns. We test the likely sources and our report says which one is causing the damp, so you fix the right thing.
Is moisture detection invasive?
No. Moisture meters, thermal imaging and our tests don't require cutting, drilling or lifting tiles. Any opening needed for the repair is limited to the spot we mark.
Do you repair the damage as well?
Our visit is about finding the source of the moisture. If you'd like us to fix it, we'll quote the repair and return at another time to complete it, often with trusted independent trades.
