Think you have a leak?

If you suspect a leak, but aren’t sure, you can perform a simple bucket test yourself.

Avoid conducting the test during rainfall, as it can interfere with the accuracy of the results.

Monitor the bucket and pool water levels no longer than 24 hours.

Note the number of centimeters lost in the pool and compare it to the loss inside the bucket.

If the mark outside the bucket (pool water) is lower than the mark inside the bucket, it indicates a potential leak.

To perform a simple water evaporation test for pool leak detection, follow these steps:

  1. Start by ensuring that the swimming pool is filled to its normal operating level.

  2. Take a 20-liter bucket and dip it into the swimming pool or use water from another source. Fill the bucket to two to five centimeters higher than the level of the pool water on the outside of the bucket.

  3. Place the bucket on the steps of the swimming pool, ensuring that it is not fully immersed in the water.

  4. Turn off the pumps and make sure the auto-fill valve is also turned off to set up the test.

  5. Use a grease pencil to mark the water levels inside and outside the bucket.

  6. Restore the pump function while keeping the auto-fill valve off. This will allow the pool to operate normally during the test.

  7. Take note of the time when the pump is restored. After 24 hours, compare the water levels inside and outside the bucket. If the pool water level has decreased significantly compared to the water level inside the bucket, it may indicate a potential leak.

This water evaporation test can give you a general idea of the water loss due to evaporation versus a potential leak. If the difference in water levels is substantial, it is recommended to consult a professional pool leak detection service to further investigate and address any leaks that may be present.
